Thrasher was like my Sears and Roebuck catalog conocetinn to the world outside rural America. I ordered all kinds of junk out of the back of that magazine. Skateboard decks, other magazines, music, t-shirts etc. Even after all these years I still have never found the magical place from which all that cool stuff came. Maybe it was Portland?
I bought Jane's Addiction's Nothing's Shocking woiutht ever hearing a note. I just read about it somewhere. Probably in Rip or Thrasher. They sounded like the opposite of everything else so I tracked it down. In retrospect, it's amazing we ever found anything or knew anything before teh intronets. Info was so rare that we clung to it and chased it down. Like, if you saw a guy from a band you liked wearing a t-shirt of some obscure band in a picture in freaking Rolling Stone, you'd go track that band down and buy their CD woiutht hearing a note. Or maybe that was just me and my loser friends.
